Asylum of Satan (1972)
|
|
| 80 min.
| Directed by William Girdler.
| With Charles Kissinger, Nick Jolley, Carla Borelli, Louis Bandy, Lila Boden, Liz Cherry, P.J. Childers.
| After she's involuntarily committed to a reclusive mental institution, pretty Lucina (Borelli) slowly begins to realize the place is an asylum run by a maniacal sect of devil worshippers.
Will spunky fiance Jolley be able to rescue his intended before she's served up as a human sacrifice to Satan? In the meantime, the hospital's 'patients' die off in tacky fashion: by a swarm of ravenous insects, by venomous water snakes.
Girdler's first feature maintains a decent level of interest, thanks mainly to Borelli's game performance as the tortured heroine. Kissinger is a hoot in a dual role as the asylum's evil Dr. Specter and its head nurse/high priestess Martine.
