Track of the Moon Beast (1972)
84 min.
Directed by Dick Ashe.
With Chase Cordell, Donna Leigh Drake, Gregorio Sala, Patrick Wright, Francine Kessler, Joe Blasco.
Drive in monster flick filmed in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

A lunar meteor shower pelts archaeologist Paul (Cordell), embedding a small fragment of moon rock deep in his brain.

Unfortunately, now when there's a full moon, poor Paul can't help but transform into a seven foot tall killer lizard!

New girfriend Kathy and amiable Professor Salina rush to help their friend, but can they stop Paul before he goes on another murderous rampage?

The bargain basement special effects are harmless enough and lend this low budget fare a kind of '50s charm.

The real enemy here is the subpar acting (particularly from Drake and hammy police captain Wright), a degenerative syndrome that fails to create any sense of dread or suspense.

Cordell is okay as the colorless lead, but we wish he had spent more time onscreen as the 'Sleestak' of the Night.
