The Texas Chainsaw Massacre Part 2 (1986)
89 min.
Directed by Tobe Hooper.
With Dennis Hopper, Caroline Williams, Bill Moseley, Jim Siedow, Bill Johnson, Lou Perry.
Obnoxious, prattling clunker of a sequel to the 1974 original.

More a grossout comedy than horror, this silly nonsequitur stars the overrated Dennis Hopper as "Lefty" Enright, a former Texas Ranger - and the uncle of Sally Hardesty from the original.

Lefty is a man on a mission. For 13 years, he's been looking for Leatherface and his deranged family, in hopes of giving everyone's favorite cannibal family a little bit of personal revenge.

Aided by a local radio DJ named "Stretch" (Williams), it looks like Lefty's time has come. For the Sawyer family has made contact!

What ensues are chainsaw duels, liberal doses of gore courtesy of Tom Savini, and overly broad performances in this supposed 'black comedy' followup.

(That's our polite way of saying this bad-smelling hiccup doesn't even come close to touching the original.)

Emblematic of late '80s horror, TCM2 is dominated by out of place comic buffoonery. When the humor is non stop, it's hard to get our chill up.

Unnecessary and overrated.

Followed by Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III (1990).
