Sleepaway Camp II: Unhappy Campers (1988)
80 min.
Directed by Michael A. Simpson.
With Pamela Springsteen, Renee Estevez, Brian Patrick Clarke, Walter Gotell, Tony Higgins, Susan Marie Snyder.
Tongue in check sequel to Sleepaway Camp was made only after that first film's success on cable and video.

The Boss' sister Pamela Springsteen plays Angela Baker the killer, now all grown up and employed as a counselor at Camp Rolling Hills (what lame brain hired this chick?!?).

Soon, any younguns who don't follow Angela's rules perish in any number of inventive ways - by electric drill, by chainsaw, by throat slashing.

Geez, what is it with these pushy post-op trannies?

Unfortunately, Unhappy Campers never reaches the zenith of its predecessor. It's neither classic camp fun, nor slasher heaven.

Springsteen's tongue-in-cheek delivery as Angela contains far too much comedy, and we wanted more straight horror from this second entry in the series, and less send up.

That said, the rest of the cast seems to have a good time and there are some fun death scenes (especially the chainsaw sequence).

Still, Camp Rolling Hills is no Camp Arawak.

Followed by three more sequels: Sleepaway Camp III: Teenage Wasteland (1989), Sleepaway Camp IV: The Survivor (2002) and finally, Return to Sleepaway Camp (2008).
