The Possession of Joel Delaney (1972)

105 min.
Directed by Waris Hussein.
With Shirley MacLaine, Perry King, Michael Hordern, Lovelady Powell, Barbara Trentham, David Elliot, Lisa Kohane, Miriam Colon.
This unsettling and creepy possession horror boasts a first rate cast.

Wealthy Manhattan socialite Norah Benson (MacLaine) always keeps a protective, loving eye out for her brother Joel (King).

So when Joel begins to exhibit wildly unpredictable & dangerous behavior, Norah resolves to uncover some answers...and instead finds herself drawn into a dark world of Santeria rituals...and demonic possession.

MacLaine is top notch as Joel's distraught sister, while handsome Perry King is superb as her overcome brother.

A taut chiller with some great suspense in a few scenes (most notably the excellent oceanside ending) and an overall dank atmosphere.

Gore highlights include not one but two decapitated heads! It's a smorgasbord, folks.

MacLaine is never better than in the last shot...
