The Howling (1981)
91 min.
Directed by Joe Dante.
With Dee Wallace, Patrick Macnee, Dennis Dugan, Christopher Stone, Belinda Balaski, Kevin McCarthy, John Carradine, Slim Pickens, Elisabeth Brooks, Robert Picardo, Dick Miller, Kenneth Tobey.
A werewolf film with bite - and one of three lycanthrope efforts made in 1981, the other two being The Wolfen and An American Werewolf in London.

After escaping a near death encounter with a serial killer, a TV news anchor (Wallace) seeks some rest and respite at a secluded retreat called The Colony.

But is the supposed 'experimental living' group just what it seems...or could the attendees all be werewolves attempting to acclimate their ancient order into the modern age?

A somewhat slow moving first half segues to a nice build by the middle, and star Wallace is first rate throughout.

Spectacular Rob Bottin special effects for the creatures.

A good woodsy atmosphere, and a memorable "on air" climax are also solid highlights.
