Gargoyles (1972)
74 min.
Directed by Bill L. Norton.
With Cornel Wilde, Jennifer Salt, Grayson Hall, Bernie Casey, Scott Glenn, Woodrow Chambliss.
The costumes of future multiple Oscar winner Stan Winston - Terminator 2 (1991), Jurassic Park (1993), Aliens (1986) - take center stage in this superior TV horror movie.

Archaeologist Wilde is investigating the gargoyle legend in the Southwest with his daughter, played by the winning Salt.

Turns out gargoyles aren't just legend. They're quite real...and quite deadly!

A terrifying scene sets the stage, in which the scientist and his daughter are attacked by the creatures at the cabin of an old man (Chambliss) who is storing a gargoyle skull.

An impressive film, this stands as the definitive take on the subject.

Winston's work here is an obvious foreshadowing of his excellent achievement in James Cameron's alien classic nearly a decade and a half later.
