The Centerfold Girls (1974)
93 min.
Directed by John Peyser.
With Andrew Prine, Tiffany Bolling, Francine York, Aldo Ray, Ray Danton, Jeremy Slate.
Slasher-cum-exploitation is too cluttered to rise above the mediocre, but it does boast a certain sporadic zestiness that makes it a fun watch.

Spurred on by a disgust of modern day morals, religious nut Prine stalks the various female models who've posed for an annual nude calendar.

One by one, the curvaceous working girls meet a sharp end at the hands of Prine's trusty straight razor.

A meandering plot arc hampers any effectiveness Centerfold might muster; the exploitative subplots often have a mean nihilistic streak which detract from the unbridled stalk n' slash you're there to see.

Still, the cast is pretty good (most notably the stone-faced Prine and feisty final girl Bolling) and there's a resident sleaziness throughout that fans of '70s horrors will undoubtedly find rewarding.

Best scene: the turnabout ending, which comes as a refreshing surprise for terrors of this ilk.

Also known as Girl Hunter.
